Gustav Januš

Gustav Januš

Painter Gustav Januš was born 1993 in Sela, Austrian Carinthia. In Carinthia he was employed as a teacher of Slovenian, art, physics, and mathematics, yet, since his early youth onwards, also engaged himself as a painter and poet.
As poet and painter, Gustav Januš has entered the record of both German and Slovenian cultural heritage by his distinctive cycles of poems and paintings.
Since 1969, when he held his first solo exhibition in the Vienna art gallery “Autodidakt”, the artist has exhibited his work at almost sixty solo and numerous group exhibitions, especially in Austria, Slovenia, and Italy. Gustav Januš is a member of the Carinthia Artists Society.
The artist lives and works in Rosenbach, Austria.

In a serious, dramatic, and playful way, Gustav Januš paints out his black poems with a great sense for the line which builds a strict, well-planned, and analytical composition; this composition as well as black contextual accents and the taches in his paintings reflect their grey, yellow, blue, green, and red backgrounds. The basis of the artist’s narrative is the colour of black – eloquent and even narrative-like in the spectrum of shades, which fully absorb light and the colours, to glow even more and to either start a conversation or contradict it.
