Zvest Apollonio

Painter and sculptor Zvest Apollonio was born 15 May 1935 in Bertoki near the Slovenian town of Koper. In 1960 the artist graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana where he finished his MA under Gabriel Stupic in 1964. From 1973 to 1989, Apollonio worked as an assistant, full-time and associate professor, deputy dean, and Head of the Print Art Department. The artist has held over 40 single exhibitions in prominent Slovenian and foreign art galleries and has co-exhibited at exhibitions and international shows of modern painting, among other at “Abitanti” workshop, “mmm art Medana”, “Sinj vrh”, and ESPRIMA 2004 in Štanjel. Apollonio received over 30 national and international awards, the most prominent being the Prešeren Fund Award in the category of Fine Arts in 1972, the Jakopič Award received in 1984, and the Alojz Kocijančič Award of Istria in 2003.

Zvest Apollonio works in the field of painting, sculpting, print art, and drawing. He also creates book illustrations, book and publication designs, mosaics, and works as a scene painter.
